The Intelisearch Cougars defeated the East Avenue Pizza Slammers, 1-0, in Norwalk Athletic Association Babe Ruth Softball Division 2 championship game.
The Slammers' Ryan Lajoie and Amy Hurd of the Cougars locked horns from the outset in a pitchers duel. Lajoie struck out 11 and allowed two hits. Hurd fanned 13 and pitched a no-hitter. The win avenged the Cougars' only two losses this season.
The game's lone run came in the fourth. Sarah O'Connor lined a one-out single and Mariah Ventrella walked. After a strikeout, Gabby Arena reached base on an infield single. Amanda Tavolacci was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Rachel Kurtzman made two terrific catches in center field for the Slammers.
NAA Babe Ruth officials also thanked their sponsors and coaches for a successful season.
